چکیده

Periodical surface density fluctuations, Le., longitudinal waves, and transverse capillary waves are inherently coupled at fi-covered liquid-gas interfaces. A resonance occm for a particular surface dilatational elasticity where both waves have the same propagation velocity. In this paper, periodical surface density fluctuations are excited in polymer monolayers via the generation of transverse capillary waves. Without contacting the monolayer these transverse ripples are excited by an electrocapillary deflection of the interface (100 Hz to 1 IrHz) and detected by specular reflection of a laser beam from the water surface. The surface pressure fluctuations are investigated by superposing two transverse capillary waves perpendicularly to each other under resonance. In addition, the surface pressurejarea isotherm as well as the propagation characteristics of transverse capillary waves are given for a poly(viny1 acetate) monolayer.

Detection of Longitudinal Waves in Resonance with Capillary Waves at the Air-water Interface by Energy Transfer

Capillary (transverse) ripples are generated at a monolayer-covered air-water interface. Compression of the monolayer changes the surface dilatational modulus E and the reduced elasticity s/o. of the monolayer. When the reduced elasticity reaches a particular value, resonance between the capillary wave and the longitudinal wave should occur. Longitudinal waves (lateral oscillations, modulation ...

Elastic Wave Propagation at Imperfect Boundary of Micropolar Elastic Solid and Fluid Saturated Porous Solid Half-Space

This paper deals with the reflection and transmission of elastic waves from imperfect interface separating a micropolar elastic solid half-space and a fluid saturated porous solid half-space. Longitudinal and transverse waves impinge obliquely at the interface. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are obtained and computed numerically for a specific model and results obta...

Reflection and Transmission at the Boundary of Two Couple Stress Generalized Thermoelastic Solids

In this paper the reflection and transmission at a plane interface between two different couple stress generalized thermoelastic solid half spaces in context of Loard-Shulman(LS)[1967] and Green-Lindsay(GL)[1972] theories in welded contact has been investigated. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are obtained due to incidence of a set of coupled longitudinal waves and c...

Reflection and Transmission of Longitudinal Wave at Micropolar Viscoelastic Solid/Fluid Saturated Incompressible Porous Solid Interface

In this paper, the reflection and refraction of longitudinal wave from a plane surface separating a micropolar viscoelastic solid half space and a fluid saturated incompressible half space is studied. A longitudinal wave (P-wave) impinges obliquely at the interface. Amplitude ratios for various reflected and transmitted waves have been obtained. Then these amplitude ratios have been computed nu...

Wave Propagation at the Boundary Surface of Elastic Layer Overlaying a Thermoelastic Without Energy Dissipation Half-space

The present investigation is to study the surface wave propagation at imperfect boundary between an isotropic thermoelastic without energy dissipation half-space and an isotropic elastic layer of finite thickness. The penetration depth of longitudinal, transverse, and thermal waves has been obtained. The secular equation for surface waves in compact form is derived after developing the mathemat...
